Default earliest Harrington rods

I had mine done in RPA 1969...I wondered when this operation first came into being.

Thank you for your enquiry.

The American surgeon, Paul Harrington, introduced his operation in the United States in the early 60s.

It was first performed at Royal Prince Alfred by the late Dr Harry Tyer and in 1969 would be shortly after this type of surgery was first performed in Sydney. Dr Tyer was a first-class surgeon and a man held in the highest regard in the profession.

The Harrington technique was superceded by variations of the technique called the Cotrel-Dubousset, initiated by two French surgeons whose names are combined as stated.

I trust this information is helpful.
