Default Spinal stenosis

Hi I was just wondering if a small amount of spinal stenosis caused by oesteophytes?? Would prevent me from having scoliosis correction surgery?

Thank you for your question.

I note that you made an earlier post on 13 April. There is a directory of spinal specialists who are accredited members of the Spine Society of Australia on our website. You would need to be referred by your family doctor for another opinion and ideally the surgeon who you first saw should provide information to the doctor from whom the second opinion is being sought.

The answer to your question about a small amount of spinal stenosis caused by osteophytes being a contraindication to surgery is, in general, no.

I trust this information is helpful.

Hi Dr Scoliosis,
Thanks for getting back to me in regards to my silly back.
I've taken note of the spinal specialists on the register and will definitely be seeking a second opinion.
The original referral I had was to one of the Drs on the list however when I rang for an appointment I was told he only sees children and was given the name of the Dr I did see and told he does adult spinal surgery including scoliosis. He is in the same practice as the other Dr on the register. I'm sure he's reputable however not being on the register scares me a little. I'll get his opinion and ask for a second opinion from a Dr on the register.
I thank you for taking time out of your busy day to talk to me.
Mish
