Unhappy I need some advice and help

Hi I'm 29 years old, I just found out a few months ago I have Scoliosis and Khyposis. They say it's congenial, I'm not sure what my curvature is as yet. I've been referred to go and see a specialist but have not yet been contacted which is frustrating because I'm in so much pain. I can hardly walk do daily things or sleep. I was on panadine fort and voltarin rapid tablets which does nothing to easy my pain. I cry so much because of the pain my doctor has now given my Tramadol and I've reading up on it and the side effects and how it makes you tired and you can become dependent on it or addicted. I am now trying to push past the pain so I don't have to take Tramadol but the pain is becoming unbearable! What does everyone surggest I do I'm at my wits end and I'm at a loss I feel so alone and down.

Hi.

You poor thing I do feel very much for you. Where do you live? There is hope at the end of the tunnel. You sound as though your curve must be a fair degree. I agree with you on the tramadol and you cant go on living on that stuff. You need to see a specialist and get some help, hang in there. I will send you a PM Rosie

Hi Rosie thank you for responding to my post. I actually live in Melbourne I have been referred to a specialist but have not heard a thing from them. I'm not quite sure with the degree of my scoliocsis and khyposis is but my X-rays shocked me when I saw them for the first time. I took a tramadol for the first time today and it took almost all my pain away I do feel it's a good pain killer. I'm just really frustrated at not knowing what the degree of my curvatures are and what I can do to help my movement and pain. I'm not quite sure why you can't send me private message hmm..*

Hi
I suggest you contact the specialists room and tell them how bad your pain is and that you are desparate to get some help as the pain is wearing you down. It pays to keep bugging them so they know how bad it is. You may be put at the bottom of the pile of referrals. Did you send xrays as well as this certainly helps get in quicker. Hope you get to see some one soon. If no success try another specialist. I know they are busy but they need to know how you are suffering. Good Luck and let me know how you go.
Rosie

Thank you for your private message Katherine I sent you one back I have been referred to a specialist but it's taking longer then I thought so I guess I'll just have to wait and my gp is going to ring to see where we're at I don't have my X-rays I was meaning to get them the last time I saw my doctor but I forgot. Can the doctors give you a disk copy of your X-rays?

Hi

Normally all x-rays are given to the patient and it is recommended that you always keep them, no matter how old they are and how many new ones you get. I have a library of them now

When I had my last two x-ray sessions I asked for a disc to be made before I went into the radiology room and then I had to wait a little while after the x-rays were taken for the disc to be ready. I sent the discs to my specialist in Melbourne (I live in Hobart) and kept the films at home.

As Rosie said, keep phoning the specialist requesting an appointment confirmation. It is a frustrating wait, most of us have had to wait a few months for our appointment. But it is unusual that you don't even have a date for an appointment ... normally the specialists are very organised.

I do hope you get in soon. You sound like you are in an awful amount of pain considering the medication you are on! That is usually what they give us after surgery!!!

Sending a PM also...

Christine x

Thank for you responce Christine I wasn't given my xray's but I'll defently ask to have them as soon as I go back to my doctor. My doctor is going to ring the specialist when I go back to see him. My pain meds are actually helping with the pain I didnt want to take Tramadol but I have and it's working wonders I am just anxious to find out what the specialist will say and where they want to go from here and I really want to know what the degree of my curvatures are. I'm just in the dark, I don't know how bad my scoliosis and khyposis really is but on my xray's it looks pretty bad but I can't tell :-s

I can assure you, we ALL know what you are going through, at some level.

Follow your instinct. If the meds help you deal with life on a daily basis, take them. Keep on with whatever helps reduce your pain.

I used to think of my pain as a friend who wouldn't leave me alone. You know, one that you really wish would go away, but you are that familiar with them that it really doesn't matter that they stick around???

You will have some answers soon, so hang in there. Your medication may only be needed in the short term. Most of us on the forum have endured many, many long periods of pain and long periods of medication and we all get through.

Any luck with a specialist date yet?
