Talking Almost 6 years post op!

Hi all,

I had a bad S curve and was operated on what seems like just a few years ago. And I suppose it was, but it definitely doesn't feel like 6 years this year. I was 13 years old at the time, and remember emailing a few other girls that had been operated on. Nothing could really prepare me for the experience - but I'm definitely glad I did it! Once you have that, you'll have a different perspective (I'd imagine) on pain.

So far so good, and of course there's discomfort at first but you get used to it. My tolerance for sitting has lowered a bit and I get pins and needles in my buttock and legs/feet. My surgeon said this is with position and my back is completely fine as of my check-up in 2014. Yay!

If anyone has questions please private message me and I'd be happy to answer them. Pre-op or post-op. Also happy to meet up and help talk to others with Scoliosis (in Sydney but sometimes interstate).

By the way, life is normal, just no heavy lifting - sky diving and motorbikes are still on my to-do list! As there is no physio involved really (wasn't for me besides learning how to walk post-op again), swimming is great for your back so don't hesitate to hit the pools when you can!

Well done to you! I love reading these positive stories. I am nearly 1 year post op (T2-L2) also for a nasty S curve - been a slow road and frustrating at times but oh so worth it in the end. I look forward to the future too and hope that at my 6 year milestone I can have good things to say too.

Thanks Healthpal! Congrats on being one year post op! It is definitely worth it in the end as you said, I'm sure time will fly and before you know it you'll be at the 6 year mark
