Default New and worried

Hi there,

as the title suggest I am new to the forum.
I was diagnosed with a 30 degree curve at the age of 15 and have never really had any problems or any follow up treatments. I am now 32 and have coped relatively well over the past 17 years, my pain was managable as long as I didnt over do things, gardening, cleaning ect.
Until now that is, I recently started to get a severe pain in the back of my shoulder that would radiate up my neck. I went to see my G.P and he sent me off for x-rays.
This is part of the notes from the X-ray clinic -
"Cervical Kyphosis centered at the C4/C5 level".
"Prominant thoracic scoliosis with convexity to the right. Centered at T7/T8 level".

So anyway I was given a referral to see a specilast which I called yesterday and the nice lady who answers the phone advised me that the Dr. will not see me at his office because I do not have private health insurance. Fair enough, she then told me to fax the referral letter to the out patient clinic (Perth W.A.) where he treats his non-insured patients.
20 minutes after doing so I received a call and advised that the waiting list is long and it wont be until July some time before he can see me!!!
She also advised me that he is the only scoliosis specialist in W.A.!

Normally I would not worry but I am in a fair bit of pain and the pain killers dont seem to be working (mersyndol 2 tabs, 3 times daily).
I also have a few other strange things going on with my body that prompted me to do some googling (I know I shouldn't) and hence found my way here.

1. I recently discovered I have a sacral dimple, I had pain in my tail bone for years but just put it down to the way I sit. Anyway I also noticed a clear discharge and upon inspection I seem to have a tiny hole !
I'm pretty sure it is not a Pilonidal sinus as thier is no lump and no puss/blood.
2.Over the past 6 months I have started getting pins and needles in the my arms and my feet.
3. I often feel extremely fatigued and nausious.
4. My balance has always been bad but lately seems alot worse.

So anyway I'm not really sure what to do now. I dont know if these symtoms are being caused by the Kyphosis in my neck but I know I dont want to wait four months to find out.

Anyhelp with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Betty

Thank you for your enquiry. On the information available and without examining you and reviewing the x-rays, it is not possible to give you any concrete advice. However, I would not put too much emphasis on the x-ray report which mentions "cervical kyphosis". That may just mean a slight change in alignment.

It is sometimes helpful if a family doctor contacts the specialist directly and requests an earlier appointment, and particularly if the patient is having considerable discomfort. I suggest that you talk to your family doctor along those lines.

If you look at the directory of scoliosis specialists in Western Australia you will see that more than one surgeon is listed.

Your family doctor should be able to clarify whether or not you have a pilonidal sinus and you should bring the matter up with him as soon as practical.

I trust these remarks are helpful.

Thankyou for the reply, I have booked another appointment with my doctor so will see how things go after that.
