Default ...and so my journey begins..

Firstly, thank you to those who have made contact with me via the forum. Your information has been invaluable and I now face my journey with a little less trepidation. I have made contact with the surgeon in Brissy (thanks Jen and Rosie), have had new x-rays taken and now hope that I can get an appointment, and of course that he is able to help me. I am still keen to hear all your stories (bad bits included) so please jump in anytime. I will keep you posted...:

Thumbs up Re: ...and so my journey begins..

Hi All - an update. After many x-rays, bone density scans, an MRI and two trips to the surgeon in Brisbane, I have a surgery date - May 13th. It is a big one, T2 to L2 with osteotomy as the top curve is well established and semi fused and so will need help for correction. He is hoping for around 30 to 35 degreess correction, which still leaves me with a saucy curve but will stop the collapse. Now, we wait.....I will probably get nervous later, but for now...well, no point in stressing.

Congrats on your surgery date! No point in telling you not to stress, you wouldn't be human if you didn't. Take good care of yourself and exercise and get as fit and strong as you can. Having said that, I can't remember if you have bad pain or not. But if you can, it will stand you in good stead for the surgery and recovery. If you have any questions, ask away, either here or by email.

Hi ladies, I've read your posts with interest and hope for your advice. I am 42, wore a brace for 3.5years in my teens and have the classic S curve but am not sure of the degrees.
I had a pain free run until my thirties, have had two kids and was always sporty but now I struggle with pain daily. Five years ago I went to a specialist in Brisbane who did not recommend surgery. He referred me to a Physio. I can't stand for long, struggle to lift groceries, find driving painful, need to sleep in a very soft bed... I feel old before my time! I would love to hear who your Dr is so that I can seek a second opinion. Also, if you know of physios/exercise classes especially for Scolis, I'm desperate. Appreciate your help.
