Hi Georgia

When you left the hospital, did you take a regular taxi to Tullamarine? And did you use a wheelchair at the airport? Wondering how we will juggle luggage that my partner and I will have, if he has to also have hands free to help hold me up or push me along.

Maybe I will see if I can rally a friend to help out.

Also, did you hold off booking your flight home until the last minute?

How are you going now?

Hi Christine, good questions!

because the goverment paid for my flights etc i had already booked my flight home, but they said it was no issue if i needed to change flights but the hospital really helped me get out on the date i booked. also book a wheel chair for the airport!! (no extra cost) everyone and anyone will help you and your parter (even randoms were asking to help us) and by booking a wheel chair you get the elivator up to the plane so you dont need to worry about stairs. and a flight attendent will check your luggage in for you.

i just got a regular taxi to the airport- it was a bit painful but not too bad. i was fine sitting etc just the bumps in the road hurt.

im going great now. its very very frustrating being at home and not being able to drive because i feel like i could drive but i know i shouldnt. i have serverly cut down in my medication which makes me very happy cos i had alot of side effects to the drugs, i am finding it hard to get motivation to get out and go walking- as you know its FREEZING in tas at the moment

when do you go to melb?

if you have any more questions dont hesitate to ask hope this helps

Georgia

Hi Georgia

So good to hear from you and thanks for your answers.

That is great you are weening yourself of your medication. I have all sorts o reactions to drugs so am a little worried about that. I can't even take codeine.

Are you on your feet much each day? What are you able to do now? How is sitting? It sounds like you are having a super fast recovery. I am being asked how long I will need off work and I just have this blank look on my face and say, er, I don't know...!

On the flights again: did you book a premium ticket or regular economy? I was wondering about the extra leg room and wider seats, and the fact that you get on first and are at the front of the plane. And not to mention the Virgin lounge which I would have access to, I could rest on a sofa if I needed to.

My flight home (if I am discharged on day 7) will be the Queen's birthday Monday, so seats on flights home are going fast. I think I will call the PTAS people tomorrow and see if they still cover costs if the seats are the expensive ones.

I will definitely grab a wheelchair.

My admission forms are here, so it IS happening. Still can't believe it. I fly to Melbourne June 2, my specialist appointment is the next day, then we have the weekend free and the operation is Monday 6th.

And I am going to have a brace, which I am happy about.

Lots to do before and my question list is growing!
