Cool Anyone mums from WA

Hi have just started this journey with my 12 year old who went into a brace last week. We have only been in Perth for 2 years and would love to chat/meet with other mums and kids that have children going through this journey.

Hi mic,
We are in perth.
Check out my posts then send private message if you want to meet up for coffee, and any other perth mums out there... We didn't do bracing but can tell you that you can get through the surgery if it is required.
Liz.

Hi
I too am in WA. in the country. Like Liz I travelled to Melbourne to have my daughter's surgery done due to waiting list time in Perth. My daughter's curve was too big to be braced for correction and I did not want her braced for a considerable amount of time just to try to contain the curve while we waited. If you do get to the surgery stage then private health cover does give you the option to explore other avenues interstate if needs be.
I don't get to PErth often but if you are ever in the SW then I am happy to help.
Jane

Hello. My daughter Sophie has just been diagnosed with scoliosis, she's 11. She has a 54. Degree thoracic curve and 31 degree lumbar curve and we're still a bit shocked how her back got so bad before we noticed. We live in Perth and arrived from the UK 12 months ago. We saw the WA specialists last week who have put her straight on the surgical waiting list but the doctor told us there will be a 2 - 3 year wait for surgery. You can imagine our frustration. We have some private health cover but was told there is only a public health waiting list so will get it no quicker privately. I would be very interested how to go about looking at interstate options as I am informed Other states have much shorter waiting lists. Doctors want to fit a brace to stabilise the curve but say it will most certainly get worse whilst waiting for the op as she has many years of growing in front of her. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Deb

Hi MLC65,

Curvy girls is an international scoliosis support group. One of the Australian group leaders is Hayley who is 12 and lives in Perth. She is contactable via http://www.curvygirlsscoliosis.com/g...australia.html
I have had a few patients who have found the group very beneficial.

regards

Larry
