Default Curve estimate

Hello Dr Scoliosis,
I hope you can help. I have just been told I have scoliosis and my GP has referred me to a specialist but the appointment is months away. I was wondering if you could tell me what the approximate Cobb angle is from my xray please. My GP didn't know how to calculate it, and the report only says 'scoliosis convex to the right in the thoracolumbar junction and convex to the left in the upper lumbar region, with multilevel degeneration in the thoracic spine'. I am a 56 year old female. I would really like to have some idea while I wait the number of months until my appointment, so would really appreciate any estimation you could give. Thanks for your help.

Default Re: Curve estimate

Thank you for your query.

The scoliosis measures 11 degrees on Cobb angle measurement - T10 to L1 & from T5 to T9 - making it balanced. There can be up to 5 degrees of measurement error between practitioners and how the films are taken. The scoliosis per se is unlikely to require surgical intervention though this will be dependent on symptoms and clinical assessment.
