Default Can spinal fusion be repeated?

Hello Dr Scoliosis,

I had a spinal fusion at age 13 which reduced a 90 deg s-curve to 70 deg which is still quite bad. Now in my 30s, I would like to know whether there is any possibility of revisiting the surgery to achieve further improvement? I am willing to travel anywhere and endure whatever is required.

Thank you.

Thank you for your question. Revision surgery can be done for scoliosis but it tends to be more difficult and with higher risks than the first operation. This is particularly the case if further correction through the old fusion area is needed to improve the correction.

Surgeons experienced in this surgery may be found in major cities in each state. Many of those who treat adolescent or childhood scoliosis also see adults with spinal deformity. I would suggest looking at the list of specialists on the website. It is also a good idea to seek second opinions when considering major surgery.
