Your problem is complex and really not able to be answered in a comprehensive fashion in this forum. However, if you have had fusions below the scoliosis to deal with degenerative disc disease and now have problems above, then a long fusion may well be the answer. The concern is that 53 is quite young to be having this type of procedure.

I would strongly recommend seeking a second opinion from an experienced deformity surgeon in your capital city.
