My DD 7 has just been diagnosed we have an appointment with ped ortho surgeon in July but I have just found scoliosis clinics. What is better to go to. I can get into a clinic next month.
Do they do the same thing? We live 7 hours away from clinics and children's hospitals so I can't really do both.

Dear Gsmum,

If the scoliosis clinic is in a children's hospital, then the answer is yes. However, if it is a privately run, non medical, clinic, then I would advise strongly against it. Your daughter needs to be seen by a medical doctor (paediatric orthopaedic specialist).

At her age the curve is very likely to get worse with growth and a brace is needed. The best assessment and treatment will be available through the children's hospital.

Regarding sport. If the MRI is normal, then it is generally alright to continue playing sport, especially low impact sport like running. With scoliosis, the back is not weak, just curved.

Thank you so much for your advice.

We will definitely go the children's hospital route and let her do mild sport until the appointment. As long as she can be active, we can wait.
