my daughter had acute lymphobastic leukemia at two years old. had three years of chemo and steroids. we have a few other long term side effects but nothing major. she is now 14 years old and we have recently found out that she has scoliosis. she has been complaining of severe back pain for about two months now and we had her xrayed finally. what can i do to stop the pain. she hates excersise, we take her to the physio, dr's encourage her to do her stretching
. i am a a loss. could her past medical history have caused or contributed to the scoliosis. please help me. very sad and scared mummy.

Thank you for your enquiry.

On the information provided I think it is a matter of some urgency that your family doctor take steps to refer you to a spinal specialist. We provide a list of doctors who specialise in scoliosis (http://www.scoliosis-australia.org/scoliosis/scoliosis_specialists.html) on our website. I say this because scoliosis at two years of age is usually painless. If your daughter is clearly complaining of back pain then this is a matter which must be pursued. In all likelihood it has little to do with your daughter's previous blood problem.

In short, painful scoliosis at any age, and particularly in youngsters, needs thorough investigation.

It is suggested that you show this post to your family doctor.
