Spine Society of Australia position statement re alternative medicine

There is much public interest these days in what is termed complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and the roles of these practices in the management of a wide variety of diseases and disorders of which scoliosis is one.

The position of the Spine Society of Australia in these matters is quite clear and entirely defensible. Methods of treatment for spinal deformity (scoliosis and kyphosis) are discussed/advised only where there are sound scientific data published in front-line, peer-reviewed medical journals which supports the advice. Hence, discussion of CAM in the management of scoliosis will not be entered into on this forum in the absence of such data.
